{2010: The Makings for a Great 2011}

Have you ever laid awake at night thinking about all the witty things you are going to put in a blog post...then you sit down to write it and realize that it really only sounded good because you were half asleep? That just happened. But we'll see where this goes. Wish me luck.

2010 was HUGE for me! I could easily say one of the years in which I learned the most. 2011 is my chance to apply everything I learned. One of the most important things I learned is in chapter 8 of Preach My Gospel and is entitled USE TIME WISELY. {Side note. Last night during that same blog post brainstorm I also spent about ten minutes naming all the Preach My Gospel chapter titles. I almost went insane when I couldn't think of the name of chapter 6.}

"Use time wisely" teaches missionaries to well, use their time wisely. Specifically by setting goals and making plans. That was driven down to the very core of my being during my mission and I know it is vital to any success we want to have. I kind of had that notion before the mission as I made "ponder, prepare, create" my blog motto.

Elder M. Russell Ballard said,

"I am so thoroughly convinced that if we don't set goals in our life and learn how to master the techniques of living to reach our goals, we can reach a ripe old age and look back on our life only to see that we reached but a small part of our full potential. When one learns to master the principles of setting a goal, he will then be able to make a great difference in the results he attains in this life."

I think most everyone starts the year off by making goals and I think most everyone abandons them before February. Why?!? We have such great intentions. We are missing the second and third steps people! PLANNING and ACTION.

Do you know how you are going to lose those ten pounds? Do you know what you are going to eat? Do you know which days and how long you are going to exercise? Success is not merely achieved by wishing to be ten pounds lighter. It takes research. It takes paper and pencil. It takes a lot of work before you even start acting. You have to be mentally ready. You need plans and backup plans and more backup plans.

That is why last night I went to B&N to buy a planner that was 50% off. I have never liked planners. I never wanted to be ruled by a wad of paper. But now that little turquoise beauty is my key to freedom and success.

Thank you, 2010! Bring it on, 2011!

SET REALISTIC GOALS. MAKE SPECIFIC PLANS.
